Gum diseases are taken for granted. People give less attention to it, or should I say, most are not easily threatened by it. Most people take it so lightly. The gum disease symptoms are not really obvious on the outside but to some extent penetrates the inner part of the gums.
Most of us, when we tend to percieve something not normal, we tend to ignore it. We just brush our teeth and not even bother going to the dentist for a check-up requesting information about what’s certainly happening in there. Even more sad, we try to treat it ourselves.
The dentist is a trained professional who studied, practiced and became an expert on anything related to teeth and gums. He or she can pinpoint or detect the gum disease symptoms even at its earliest stages. They know the first treatment for it and how to control and even avoid it.
Statistics showed that whether we like it or not, 75% of the human population can expect to have gum problems or even periodontal diseases at some point in our lives. There are a lot of reasons why; there are instances which relate to genetics, a few will be because of poor oral hygiene and others are caused by particular diseases like diabetes and others.
The introductory or the first stages of periodontal disease is what we call gingivitis. According to the dictionary it is clearly the inflammation of the gums. Many of us, if not all of us, have experienced and even suffered redness of the gums (gingivitis) at least once in our lives. We think that it is usual and a very mild problem and it will eventually just go away, but we’re dead wrong.
This gingivitis, if left untreated for a long period of time, will sooner or later become a periodontal disease. By this time, the infection will be serious! Medical help from a professional dentist should be obtained as soon as possible before it gets too late!
A few easy steps to prevent this disease:
- The first and easiest step is to regularly brush our teeth. Dentists urge us to brush at least twice a day. Use toothpaste that has fluoride. Make sure you brush your teeth.
- Don’t forget to floss.
- Have a healthy oral routine. Don’t neglect dental check-up. Dental appointments should be done regularly.
Dentists know and understand what gum disease symptoms are, so you have to immediately ask your dentist about it and educate yourself. It is consistently better to be safe than sorry! And it’s never too late to set out today!
